Abuse of the Video Rating System

Let's discuss the 5 Star rating system and especially how it applies to videos at the Clubhouse.  

Here's my take.  

The Clubhouse is a place where everyday people can learn how to build an instrument and also learn how to play it.  It's also an atmosphere where anyone should be able to post a video without fear of ridicule.  We use what we have and are proud of what we can accomplish.  None of us expect a recording contract, we are just proud and want to share with friends doing the same thing as us.

Lately someone has been going through the videos here and posting 1 star.  I'd like to think that it's not just a vengeful act.  I'd like to...  It's happening at the nation too.

I don't judge the quality of the video, the lighting, the sound levels and the slick editing techniques.  I look at the spirit of the player.  Even if it's framed so you can't see their head LOL. 

You can't rate these as if you are an America's Got Talent judge.  There are some vids here from established performers, but mostly it's us in our living rooms on something we made wishing we had more tools while planning our next one.  If you just watched the latest Brad Paisley video and only gave that a 4, put on different glasses when you get here.

I have to agree...It is quite nerve wrecking to get up enough guts to put up a video. (especially when you are a beginner) We are a big family here, and supporting each other is very important! As I always say...Hugs and kisses!

its happen on nation for a long time..
i had a tiny little run in with a fellow i wont name over there one time (it was really stupid and pissy) and a video i had a 5 star rating on suddenly went to two and a half, this was july.. I rated it 5 star myself just to see what it would do and it bumped it to 3, so i think maybe he had other ppl rate it poorly too ?

it doesnt fuss me really, but i think maybe the stars thing is kinda pointless?

Ive noticed that too. Someone will post a video of something there proud of and some jerk off will try to bring themself up by bringing someone else down. (Ive always said add the human element and selfishness and hatered always finds its way in). I usually live by the rule 5 stars or I dont rate it at all. I guess the rating is there for a reason but some doucebag dropping 1 star just to bring down the average has obviously been the case lately. I have been trying to jump the ratings up lately just popping into 3 star rated videos and giving them a 5 whether I even have timne to watch it.I didnt think about what jojo brought up. (beginner jitters) before she mentioned it and that makes it 10 times worse than I imagined. Is there any way to disable the ratings? If so everybody would rate the same. I think they all deserve the same respect whether they can play, sing, or not. Or if there video camera looks like hell.Haaaa

i will leave a comment on vids when i feal the need never rated any vids well maybe one or 2 great ones ...i say just thro the whole rating system out...not needed here

There should be a ning setting for groups like this clubhouse, where the administrator can check or uncheck a box to allow or not allow the star rating thing. If there isn't, maybe you can suggest such an option to the ning people.

Once something like this starts, it just goes in circles because people know someone is being mean by clicking one star and they let their minds wander, guess who it is and then downgrade their videos on some kiddie evens up thing and before you know it, no one gets any pizza. (Simular thing of neighors guessing who called in a pizza delivery to their house and ordering pizza to be delivered there... result was no one in the entire neighborhood could get a pizza delivered from any place in town for a long, long time.) So if anyone gets downgraded, the worst you can do is guess who's doing it... just let it slide, don't give them the satisfaction of knowing it hurts your feelings, just take the support and friendship as offered by others and ignore the petty crap. Just my opinion.
