you need different strings to put on an ashbory? bassuke.com, but they aren't any cheaper.
I've experimented with various Ashbory strings. Roadtoad Pahoehoe strings are indeed the best. That is the brand that you get from Bass Uke. Owen, the designer of the strings, also helped with the design of the Kala U Bass. Since that has been a phenomenal hit, you can also now get the strings at Guitar Center.

Randy,
I know that this is a difference of opinion, but I doubt that large diameter nylon strings will work well on short scale instruments. Once nylon get much over 0.050" thick, its is pretty inflexible. That's why to replace the surgical tubing used on Ashborys, something a similar flexibility profile is needed. Polyurethane cord which is the basis of the strings from RoadToad music really works well.

Sam, Ashbury strings are not tubing. They are solid silicone.

Pete,
thanks for the info, but silicone nonetheless. Silicone is much more supple than nylon, that makes polyurethane cord a much better match.
