What is a good finish to put on a cigar box with paper lablels?

I wipe the edges, cuts and flappy bits with PVC glue to keep the paper in place. Oil for the bare timber of the box. Then hopefully they'll age interestingly.

I have used acrylic varnish on a few of mine (acrylic varnish doesn't yellow with age the way oil based varnish does).
