rod pezios

On my fourth build,and am using a rod pezio for the first time,looking for help in how to mount it for the best sound.

this is how i do my rod piezo`s, wood base with a slot in it for the rod to set it, with a loose saddle on top

Does it just set in the groove,no adhesive.Do u run your strings on it as the bridge

The piezo rod sits down inside a slot in the bridge base [ no glue ] the the bone saddle sets on top of the rod [ no glue ] the strings go over the bone saddle...the pressure from the strings pushing down on the saddle is what makes the sound. Running the strings directly on the rod piezo will eventually ruin the rod piezo, it is very fragile under the dipped coating. I set up my rod wire to be soldered on, but you can buy a special 1/8" - 1/4"  tailend input that the rod wire will plug into inside the box.

Here`s the bottom of a prototype bridge i did, you can see the rod in the slot. This bridge had the saddle glued to the top with the rod sticking out the bottom just a hair, then i attached a very thin piece of deer skin to the bottom of the bridge base. The pressure of the whole bridge pushing against the lid worked pretty good, but i still prefer the standard design that i use now.

   Built this one out of ebony scraps around the rod - best sound to date...
