Most "neck thru" resos depend on a lot of "offset" gluing of boards and a deeeeeep box. These are both weaker that a neck thru and creates (for me) an uncomfortable playing instrument. With a bolt on, the box only has to be as thick as the cone is deep.... That's how I look at it.... the best, Wichita Sam

This calls for bolt-on neck/pocket (ala' Fender) construction. If you look at my recent post on this discussion, the neck is bolt on, the strings are attached via a homemade trapeze, and the bridge/biscuit is inbetween.

two internal pics... one is a cat dish reso, the other is a lowe cone reso. The pics demonstrates the placement of a hardwood block across the front of the cigar box with a square channel cut in it to accept the neck. care needs to be taken so that the finished neck/fret board is the right height. The advantage of a pocket/bolt-on neck is that the neck angle can easily be adjusted using shims.... how this helps... the best, Wichita Sam

Those pics are very helpful Sam. I appreciate it. My main concern was the tension of the strings across my box, but I see you put some 1/4" wood (oak?) on the sides of the box to add extra support. It definitely gets me thinking. Thank you!

box bracing is more intuitive for me... some boxes get it (as in the very vintage box with the bracing , yes thats 1/4" oak, which was a 4 stringer) and some boxes don't (as in the case of the cat dish reso which was a three stringer). as always the formula for a good/loud git is stiff sides, thin top.....

This is my first attempt to build a CBG, and I went all the way with a Lowezo. It´s made of scrap wood, and to a big part built in my kitchen. I have a very understanding wife :)
