Hi I'm Jim from upstate New York. I got to tell you I'm new to the world cigar box guitars. I have just  completed my first build after learning as much as I can from the web. My background is working with steel I have been building custom stairs and railing for 30 plus years,so this is a wonderful outlet for my creative skills. I'm trying to incorporate elements of my Irish heritage into my builds. Well thanks for having me aboard and I hope to learn what I can and maybe give a hand along the way.

I think I messed up and sent an email rather than posting a comment here.  I apologize for that.  This is what I meant to post.  Still learning the website here LOL.

Greetings from the woods of central Florida.  I make a variety of folk instruments from diddley bows to kazoos and a bunch in the middle.  I'm an old retired sailor, happy ashore in my wee workshop/studio that I call the Great Aswego Kazoo Factory.  I specialize in Carolina style folk kazoos.  I was born and raised in the western North Carolina foothills where I learned to make kazoos from my dad on our homestead when I was a kid.
Name is George but everybody just calls me Doc or Doc Kazoo but push come to shove I will answer to a loud whistle LOL.  A kazoo buddy out in California, another old sailor, turned me on to the Club House and I sure am glad he did.  Look forward to meeting everyone.

Hi all, my name is Terry (Turkeychicken, TC, what-have-you), and I have been bitten by the bug. I have always wanted to build my own guitar, but I figured that you needed years of schooling and a shop full of specialty tools, and then I found cbg's about 5-6 months ago. Now I have about 20 builds under my belt, learning more and more as I go, honing my skills, until I will finally be able to build that guitar I have always wanted. I have been fortunate enough to gain a fast following (to my utmost surprise) and I haven't had such a gratifying feeling since I used to perform 15 years ago. It feels great when others (including total strangers) appreciate what you enjoy doing. I have a facebook page at Turkeychicken Cigar Box Guitars if any of you would care to "Like" and follw along with my builds. I look forward to participating and sharing with everyone.

Hi, I'm new to the site and new to the scene. Please feel free to check out the tracks I've uploaded and tell me whats good and bad. No offence will be taken as it's the only way for me to improve.

Many thanks,

Comment by Paul Monaco on January 12, 2012 at 10:13am

My name is Paul Monaco.  I am a self-taught woodcarver and have been carving for over 15 years.  I like any type of wood to work with but I prefer to use basswood to carve.  I usually hand carve with knives and gouges and power carve with my Dremel.  Now I am addicted to making Cigar Box Guitars.  So far I have made (2) Cigar Box Guitars, (1) Wine Box Bass guitar, and (3) Canjos and (2) Diddly Bows.  I'm in the process of making a 5 string banjo.  I scour the Internet for information and join club so I can get a better understanding on how to make these instruments.  I have a friend that has a small local winery and he gave me some wine bottles so I can make some glass slides for my guitars.  I also made some wooden ocarinas, and a couple of Native American Flutes. I guess my woodcarving will have to take a back burner for now.  You can check out some of my woodcarvings and other items at: Whittlers World on Facebook.
