I'm toying with the idea of building a resonator ukulele. I notice most of these have a wooden box body. Can a resonator be made from a metal body like a large tin? I'm new to this so might not be asking the right questions. Also the neck is problematic since I don't have a workshop or even many tools.
Question, what does the body top and bottom thickness play in the sound of a reso guitar? What about body size? I have built one out of a Cuesta Rey box like John McNair uses a lot of and the tone and sustain was really pretty good. That box is really thin, top and bottom, and kind of small. Any ideas and help would be appreciated. Keep on slidin'.

am thinking of building a reso box guitar using an old neck. what precautions attatching to box
here`s a sound sample of the cone edge pickup http://handmademusicclubhouse.com/video/lowe-cone-reso-with-edge-piezo
You can drill a hole through the disc and it will still work, or you can embedd a piezo disc in a wood base for the biscuit. Or you can buy a Ted Cocker piezo biscuit or you can buy a Mojobone Works rod biscuit. So there`s plenty of ways to do it. Mojobone Works also makes the cone edge piezo pickup.
Finished the Catbro Resonator. Here are some pics. Corian for the net and saddle. My son is holding the guitar.
Here is a video of Tim playing it.
Thanks Jeff...I will consider that on the next build.
Dan, I found the guitar neck on an old guitar.....I put an ad on craiglist asking for broken guitars and that is where I got the neck.
