When I was in college, I found a guitar in a friends basement. It didn't play very well but i couldn't put it down. it was a small body Japanese checkmate del rey, nothing special. after it got too bad to play fingerstyle, I put a riser nut on it and it was my main acoustic lap guitar for a while. I've had it since 1994 or so, but about 5 years ago, it took a tumble and the headstock broke off. It's been a wall hanger since.
When the lazarus challenge came up, it was my intent to full restore the guitar, but it just wasn't to be the neck was just too far gone. So I salvaged the top and back, grafting them onto one of my mahogany boxes and bolting on a neck that Railroad Don made for me.
