Started by removing all that hard shiny finish stuff. not easy but managed to get it all off.
Actually got a promising looking neck under all that. looks like a maple-ish stripe with some cheap mahogany varient.
Im impressed with the guitar. its a KAY-320, made in the GDR, so it would be made 1949 - 1990. nice hardwood fretboard - was expecting ply. a solid built guitar.
means it'll be a bugger getting the back off though.
finished rubbing down the neck and a 1st coat of oil. what a difference from that horrible hard black finish.
not too keen on the stripe on the front of the headstock so gonna put on some veneer.
1st made a cardboard template, then used this to cut out the shape on some oak veneer.
now i can cut out a section to add a wenge veneer contrast.
think i'll do the fretboard next so the neck is done. then onto the body
pimpin it yer scot bastid *****
that was a real nice neck under all that paint huh
