I read about square bored Indian flutes in a library book, thought I'd try one.
I started by turning the mouthpiece.
Since I planned to round the outside, I made the walls 1/2 thick.
After cutting the transition holes between the Slow Air Chamber and the Sound chamber, I clamped a board to the bottom and tried it.
No sound whatsoever.
I'm going to try again with 1/4 wood and leave it square.
I usually make the walls 1/8 - 1/4 thick when I make a flute.
Any suggestions?
This is a no-brainer, pardner....the #1 Selling Book on how to make the Native Flute is at www.CherryCows.com
It is #1 for a reason....you'll see.
Also, the author offers a 100% money back guaranty....if you follow his techniques, and don't end up with a really good flute....you keep the book and he rebates your $.

Pretty cool Charlie, hope you can pull it off. Keep up posted.
But does he give instructions for a SQUARE bore flute?
I've been making Indian flutes since 2005.
I'm trying something new - making one without a router.
Charlie,
Nope, the instructions for making a Native Flute at www.CherryCows.com is for making them traditionally (out of wood and/or stalks).
However, this web link below is a great place to discuss Native Flute Making:
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/basic_naf_making/
Once you get signed up there, go to the FILES section and look up "How to build a simple flute".
The fellow who posted that, shows exactly how to make a square bore flute.
It is 12 chapters.
Good luck....
