Spasm Bass

An instrument I made for the upcoming film Bolden!, a biopic of jazz pioneer and cornet player Buddy Bolden. The film supposedly has an all star cast, musical direction by Wynton Marsalis and a budget for a true Hollywood red carpet release.

I was commissioned to create a spasm bass, a homemade instrument played on the streets of turn of the century New Orleans in a spasm band (similar to a jug band). All I had to work from was a worn out black and white photo.

That's great. Looking forward to seeing the movie. Very interested in Buddy Bolden and NOLA in general. Thanks.
