A couple of REALLY good flea market finds. A lot of people overlook the inexpensive First Act Acoustic Guitars for the basis for a resonator conversion project. I have found these guitars to usually have straight necks and pretty good tuners, and the tone is also pretty good. They had a problem with the bridges coming loose, and most people just throw them away when this happens. I bought these for $2 each and used a stainless steel dog dish in one and an aluminum angel food cake tin in the other for resonators. Even with the single coil pickups and bathtub drain covers for soundholes, I have less than $20 in each one, plus an afternoon worth of work. They sound great (not quite like a National) but with the electrics, they are really cool. Cheap fun!
