To make this neck, I used a 36"x1x2 piece of oak, a 1/4"x2 piece of poplar, a hint of redwood, and a sliver of pine. When I scarfed the whole thing, I had no idea it would turn out in a checkerboard type pattern.
Thanks for the comments, all. This headstock reminds me of a bowl I made in 7th grade woodshop, where you glue about a hundred pieces of different woods together, turn it on a lathe and have a nice bowl to take home to your mother for her birthday.
