howdy kev, about yer question on the tuners on the old 1890,s banjo--truth is i got the tuners first in a set of 8 odd size tuners 4 of them were a match i used them on the headstock and a 5th one was almost identical so i used it on the octave string.funny thing is the holes for the strings were allready drilled into the ebony tuners, got the banjo 3 or 4 weeks later and when i put the tuners in they fit perfect--took less than a minute to get the tuners installed haaaaaaaaaaa. so no i didnt make them but i have made some before about 100 years ago while i was in texas.i turned some on a lathe there.
