Hardwood for nut?

I'm building a 3 string fretless CBG. I'd like to make the nut out of oak I have left over instead of using a bolt. Will this kill the sound? What else could I use? Thanks,Mark Continue

yup I made it ,the tail is just an old 6 cut down to make a 3,it was a black one ,so I just added 3 gold string adjusters to it,they do work nice
