The song I just posted I finished today from a song prompt at last night's Fredericksburg Songwriters' Showcase:  we broke into groups of three, and each drew a handful of "noun" cards and another of "adjective" cards from the  "Apples to Apples" board game.  The lyrics, along with the cards my group drew, are here.

I didn't even realize as we started the song that the Virginia State Fair started…

Frail Echoes: A Banjo Tribute

I just posted a collection of tunes is selected from the nineteenth century American hymns in the 1982 Hymnal of the Episcopal Church, which I arranged for frailing banjo. I picked these tunes because learning them on the pre-eminent American folk instrument of that time seemed an interesting challenge, and because (for most of them) they were already among my favorite hymns.…

Rumba Stick

I finished my long-threatened swiss-army kalimba today. The Rumba Stick (see the

album for details on the pictures) is a rake-tine kalimba mounted on the top of a previously-rejected Carlos Toraño Ovation box. I rejected the box because the "pretty" finish turned out to be some icky plastic coating, with even the bottom covered in nasty faux velvet (what were they thinking?)
