this is a tough site to navigate. I did a "My name is..." post but I don't see it there.

Hi Ted, Thank you for adding me to Handmade Music Clubhouse. I make and play mbira here in Harare, Zimbabwe. Please feel free to visit our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Mbira-Centre/145983002748?ref=hl for an idea of what we do. Many thanks :-)!

Awesome cake! Wish I was not diabetic. Sure hope this year is great. Last year did not do much because of health issues - all resolved. Time to get back into the rhythm

and swing.

Hi Ted, the new system is installed, but no luck yet. I guess i'll just carry on as usual till a teenager shows up to fix it.....

Hi Ted, Wow, thanks for the explanation. I installed the new flashplayer. We'll see if that does it. I don't update stuff. I get used to a system and like sticking with it. Just an old man thing. Maybe i'm in business. I'll let you know. Dave

Hi Ted, my comment box does not have this bar which you show in your note to me. Also, when i try to send a message, it doesn't go. I have to click on your page and write a comment. As an example, this comment box does not have the bar of choices. It's been that way on Nation and Clubhouse. I don't get it, but that's what it is. I get around it, but it's a limiter for me. Thanks for your note. ... Dave

Hi Ted

I'm a farmer - in Northern Zimbabwe..one of the last left. I live in total isolation. So I have a small "studio". I collect mbira - antique ones. Amongst other African stuff. Anyway - I came across a tribesman in rags - and he'd worked out a simple piezo to 1/4 inch jack wiring. On his mbira. Said he found the piezo in a watch. Anyway. I bought it from him - plugged it in - and couldn't get anything out of it. The wiring is crude and the jack loose.(inside it). Anyway - my plan is to hook it into the preamp on the Boss VE20 - which I have connected via line into a korg pro kaos. This is midi synced to a traktor Z2 mixer and two F1 Sample Pads.

I don't really DJ in the traditional sense. My joy is making the music on the fly and improvised. As you can imagine. I don't get much time live living out here. So I play live only a few times a year.

My idea is to get an mbira - working well with piezos. Then find the most talented player I can find in the bush here. They are dirt poor and suffering horribly in this dictatorship. I want to find a talent and get him hooked in and playing. and then start to manipulate the sounds he's playing with the equipment and lay down backing beats..

I was thinking of starting with a 3 piezo in parallel - I've seen your wiring for the wiring of two. There are no music shops, or radio shacks as you can imagine our here. So I've been scavenging. I found some piezo from old telephones, a greeting card, one small one from a broken voltage tester. But not sure if what I have is worth using. where to place them etc. Found a jack on an old radio 1/4 inch i can use.

nice friendly website here...well done..

Hi Ted! I am looking forward to making my first CBG. I am in the gathering stages now. Got a good selection of empty wooden cigar boxes to choose from. Searching for a fretted 3 string neck with keys and I'm not sure what type of wood...maple, oak or ? That's where the forum will come in handy.
Have a great CBG day!
