Yes David, Its amazing what freeing up any little part of the body does for the tone. I built a dulcimer combining 3 cigar boxes, and the neck and bridge are off the sound board. I have small 1/4" hardwood blocks that can be placed in different places under the neck that change the tone dramatically.
