Piece of crap cigar box guitar

I have a friend that thinks he has to have a perfect guitar to make music. Funny thing he is just building his first one. He really has a passion for building these, but I am trying to show him take one step at a time and sooner or later you will have the guitar you want. So right now I am building the crapiest cbg I can then I will let him play it so he can see you don't need a pertty cbg to make music. Besides I have wanted one that looks just I got it out of the garbage can. I have a cousin who thinks you can't play real music on a cigar box guitar. My personal Punch slide will be done I hope before the new year.

Good luck...both with building a piece of crap on purpose, and helping your friend learn a lesson. I never really played guitar...so the million dollar guitar bug never bit me. I always thought a set of Pearls would sound better than my pawn shop Slingerlands....til I had to buy em...

Go for it -- I am really pleased with the sound of my "low slider Puch" box, even though the neck is bowed and it looks like junk.

Im more impressed with a player that can play like a god on anything with a string.
Iam equally not impressed with a poser with a mint 65 tele on his wall that cant play for dick. ( not meaning somebody whose trying to learn)
I find myself somewhere in between. and it turns out my ratty cbg's are the envy of both. lol.

What is the worst looking cbg you have ever made. I mean so bad that you would never show it to anyone. Or have you ever made one just to look nasty.

My first CBG I call "Da Beast" . It's not really a piece of crap, but there are things that I'd do different now if I were to build it again. There's a learning curve to doing anything right. This one plays well. The volume and tone knobs are on top. The box is weighted to balance the guitar. Have pride in anything you build.

Some people build c.b.g.'s so they have a line on picking up women. The cheaper builds that still sound good seem to be the way to go if that is your intent. Make it look like a cigar box purse turned c.b.g. and you have a gold mine of a tacky build. I was told once that my builds weren't as authentic because they looked and played and sounded too good. The whole argument to me is rather silly. They are cigar box guitars, just remind yourself of that.

I have made 3, 4 and 6 and even a madolin and 6 string combined in one box. I truely belive that If you like what your making its gonna be great. I think that piccaso could give a flip about what people thought of his work but he did it the why he wanted and he caught the worlds eye. So weather you are going for a crappy looking old delta blues machine or a bo diddley style six string if you like than who cares what THEY think who are THEY really anyway.

I think everyone is mistaken on the crappy looking guitar. I was trying to help a friend build his first CBG. He got all hyped on it I gave him everything to build it and told him I would help him with what I knew. He made a really great nech and headstock all by hand. A hand saw, rasp and sandpaper. cut the box end out great. But when he got to the bridge and nut he started going crazy with everything. It had a terrible buzz which there was no way to cure it but make new ones. And the tuners where a nightmare, He tapered the hole to put the collers in they wouldn't fit so he hammered then in and glued then in, and then the tuners were hard to turn because of the tight fit. I tried to tell him keep it simple your first 1-3 builds then start trying something new.
