Thank You,
I was pretty sure of this, but I wanted to ask. After putting the strings on I see that I have lots of setup work to do. So The pick up will be done then.
I wish I could post pix so I could boast a little. I will have to play it for now.

It is best to protect the pickup with some type of saddle, the rod pups are not made for use without some protection.
Hello,
I have just made a standup bass. It has a 46 inch scale. I am useing weed eater line for strings. My question is this, I want to use a rod pick up on the saddle. Can the strings make contact with the rod or do i need to prevent this contact. On my travel ukes I used a plastic tube under the strings and the rod in that
Great start Greg, keep us posted.
Finally starting on the upright bass, and got the body cut out. It's going to be a surfboard shape to go with the guitar I made. The body is about 42" in length and I'm trying to decide on the depth. I was thinking about 4", any suggestions. Haven't decided whether to use a standard bass guitar neck, or make a more conventional style neck. I will be electric because I don't think there is enough body for a good resonance
My youngest son is amazing at 4,5,6,12 string guitars so I decided to build this to see how much he likes it. I have a feeling that he will be borrowing another guitar from his Dad.
I just went to YouTube to have a listen. What a sweet sound! I see the attraction!
Wow again. I'd love to hear what that sounds like.
A bass guitar with long scale guitar strings on it tuned one octave below a guitar.
