That odd pic you have there Ted is a melophone. It was made around 1830 - 1850 or so. It has a bellows inside and the buttons on the neck are for notes and chords. Sort of like a primitive piano accordion.

I had a dream where a guy with no face was playing a 2 string instrument with a clock for a bridge. He kept saying he was playing for time and my time was running out. It was a disturbing dream but when I woke I knew I had to build that instrument. This is close but I used an old brass acetylene gauge instead of a clock. Still needs the pickup wiring done yet.

Shows invention of the hydraulophone, a musical instrument based on pressurized water jets, featuring "Nessie", a children's hydraulophone in the form of a cute green sea monster, as well as other hydraulophones, such as the single-jet hydraulophone in which all sound is made from one screeching water valve on a single jet. The video shows various changes in the sound, depending on how the water jets are blocked.
