Here's another shot of my new/old lap steel. She's a sweet player. Creamy. I'll copy her to make a new Special of my own.

OOPS, I looked in Volk's Lap Steel Guitar and you are correct Phrygian. I clearly don't know what I'm doing. I played in A6 all evening at band practice last night. I love the sound of it. I found I could play in concert pitch by moving down two frets from the Dobro tuning. In other words, I'd play a C at the third fret instead of 5th. I found I have work to do on my new/old Morrell lap steel. It has the third string much lower on the nut than the other strings, so when you bar the first 4 frets it buzzes. Also unless you touch the strings it hums. It needs a ground wire to the metal tail piece. Both easy fixes. Otherwise, it's a nice little lap. I'll fix it today.

I just got my special chord for my National and it works great. The pots could use cleaning and I think that is where the changing volume thing is coming from. It sounds really cool when all is flowing as it should. At times a string or the whole pup fades for a few notes, then springs back to life. I'm enjoying the new tuning that came with the National. It's the Hawaiian C6 tuning. It's E, C#, A, F#, E, C# (from 1st to 6th strings). It sound cool to just strum it in the 5th 10th and 12th frets. I've got one lap in this tuning and another in a varient: C#, A, F#, E, C#, and A. This tuning came with the National when it came in the mail.

Thanks Phrygian, I'll look into the Jason Lollar pup. I'd like to get something good for my new builds using these old laps as my models. I've wondered about the Antiquity pups  that I see on ebay? I'd sure love to get my hands on one of the horseshoe magnet pups of the day. From reading, I see one person is building them again. But haven't seen any offered up for sale.

Ya I'm in love with her right now. I just sit and look at her and get happy. I just got another beauty. She's a National (same manufacturer as the Special, jut a different logo). Perloid mother of toilet seat. She's in good shape. I'll be adding pics soon. She has a weird chord. A screw in type that she lacks. I've seen them on ebay, so I'll order one. Hate to wait. I hear she has a pup problem. Hope I can get her moaning her blues soon. I'll use her for a model to build from, like the Special and the Regal. I love these laps.
