Hey Brent I have a friend (really) that uses hanger bolts, Lag bolt on one end and machine thread on the other, for this process. You can get them at lowes and home depot. I have used threaded inserts (lowes) be careful I have had failure in mahogany. Now what I use is a barrel bolt...

I use a doweling jig to guide the drill bit. The other picture shows you both options... There are lots of ways to attach a neck this is just what I do... Hope it helps the cause - Jim

i think im going to butt the the neck wood to the box, run all thread though, and use some oak i have for the all thread to go through. i have some 5/16" allthread and some 3/16". the bottom piece of all thread (3/16"). im thinking i will use, not only as more bracing, but to also act kinda like a shim. hopefully it wont come to that, but hey sounds good right! lol! i know prob. over kill but whatever.

Brent-

I did something similar to this on the guitar that I kept for myself. It will work fine, just need to make sure your holes are drilled precisely and the right diameter so you don't split the wood. One question though, how does the box actually open/close. What are you actually attaching the neck/allthread too? Are you running a solid piece of wood into the box or are you butting it up to the box and using a separate piece of wood on the inside?? Does any of that make sense?? lol
