Hey Dan, yeah the black bands are the fret markers for the 3-5-7 and 12 I believe... The bamboo, I'm not sure of, it was left to me by a friend in his will.. They were originally intended to be used for Shakuhatchi Flutes, but I used a piece for this - it's just a japanese bamboo of some kind maybe tiger or something, not sure... Yeah there are a lot of different types of bamboo, but generally once they are fully dried they will all be harder than any type of wood that exists... Bamboo it basically as hard as it gets.. Which makes it even more difficult as it's very prone to splitting... The two neck thing sounds cool - I was actually planning on doing that with another build at some point, but I've just gotten way way too busy to build any new ones lately. Not sure about the diameter, I'd have to measure it, maybe I'll do that later tonight! Good Luck!

hey Larry, where do you get your bamboo? What diameter did you use? Are there different kinds, some harder than others. I'm thinkin outside the 'box', cigar box that is, on my next build. Haven't really figured out if i want to go with single bamboo, or double for the neck? got any opinion? still trying to figure out how i'm gonna fasten the neck to the shell. also, are those black bands your fret markers?
