Cigar Box Guitar Headquarters - CBG HQ

Fun photo of me and the local kids that took part in a DIY Cigarbox guitar workshop this summer. They built some great sounding instruments and I made up a Piezo that could be slipped under their bridges so we could pump them through my Micro Cube. What a riot!

Tracy this is truly what its all about! Youve given them a great gift that will influence them for years whether its playing music, making music or just being inspired that they can accomplish things. Very cool of You!

It was a whole lot of fun and from the reports I get from the parents, the kids all still have their guitars and play with them regularly. To me that makes it all worth while! As an added bonus, one of the Mom's gave me a big cardboard box full of cigarboxes that her ex-husband had kept around.

The workshop was 2-3 hours a day for 2 days. I made up the rough necks ahead of time so all they had to do was decorate their boxes, attach them to the necks, draw on the fret board and string them. I used 1x2in finished poplar from Home depot for the necks, it was really cheap but still very hard material and easy to cut. It was all fun and the Kids parents I have talked to all say the kids wre really proud of what they created and still play them regularly. I call that Mission Accomplished!

How long did the session last? What prep work did you have done before they arrived? I let my high school students make them. They are always so proud of them. Great job here, man!
