First time build

I have ideas on what to build, just need to verify bridge to bridge length.
I have a 24.75" scale, which I understand will be length between bridges, however ,y box width us 11" which puts bridge in middle of box and 2-3" of fretboard overhang onto box.
Is this thinking correct? Would rather not cut into top of box for first build sync most have bridge positioned about 2/3-3/4 towards box end
Any guidance appreciated

I usually determine where I want the bridge first, then make the neck based on scale length (nut to bridge distance). Are you using frets? Although I prefer the bridge about a third of the way from the edge, if yours is in the middle it should be OK.

The cherry is a build I had planned for my son since he plays bass professionally and frets don't help him. If it ends up around middle with an 11" wide box, any concerns with a top cutout about 2" to allow fret board to fit ok on lid top?

Comment by Ted Crocker on February 1, 2015 at 5:06pm: Something doesn't sound right about the measurements. It seems strange that the bridge be located 3" from the end of the fretboard. How many frets? Measure from the nut to the 12th fret and double that, THAT is your scale length (nut to bridge) and should be 24.75. If it's right, maybe you can just cut off the fretboard overhang.

22 frets
Fretboard length is 20" and I do have a blank space from last fret to end of board of 2 1/8"
Removing last 2" would allow the fretboard to come up to start of box for a 9 1/4" box which I also have and place it 1/3 from tail end and past half way point of 11" box
All types of options!

Comment by darryl.kernaghan on February 1, 2015 at 8:57pm: sounds like you have an un finished f/board Brent,,try measuring from the nut position,to the 12 th fret,then double that dimension,that is where your bridge should be,any un needed fretboard can just be removed if necessary

Comment by darryl.kernaghan on February 1, 2015 at 9:20pm: with an 11 inch box,bridge about 3 5/8 from rear of box,on a 24.75 in, scale,the fret board should meet front of box around the 21 st fret,you can cut it there,or take a few frets over the box,but it sounds like you just have too many frets on your board to get the bridge position you want and use them all

Overall fret board 20" length
12th fret at 12.5" from middle of nut
I have about 2 1/8" blank space from last fret to end of board, maybe I can remove 2" to help on placement?
