Cigar Box Guitar Headquarters - CBG HQ

It's done!  I finally got off my lazy butt and finished my first cigar box guitar.  Check it out:

Now it's time to start thinking about the next one.  Got a red Punch box that I think I want to use for my first "electrified" cbg.  :)

Looks mighty fine Arnold!  Let me know if you need advice on electronification.

I'm sure I'll advice on all sorts of things.  Like getting the action lower on the darn thing.  It might be because I made this one fretless, but the action makes it only good for slide playing.

Wow, looks great.  Impressive f holes on a first build. How's it sound?

Since I've never built one before, I didn't know which three strings to use.  So I used the three highest note strings, which tend to give it a banjo-like sound.  On the next one I'll use the other three strings in the set and decide how it sounds compared to the first one.

The F holes took quite a while to complete.  They look better in the photo than in person.  But what can you expect with nothing but a craft knife and a rattail file to do them.  Need to invest in some tools soon. ;)

Strings are way too close together, too.  Gee, the more I look at it, the more I see that needs work. :(

Pick it up and play it!

Oh don't worry...I will. ;)

Hi Arnold. Great first build. Now that you've got the mechanics down, check out LJ's CBG lessons for dummies, on this site. He's a great teacher and you'll pick it up quickly. Re; the string height; don't worry about that. It's easier to learn the slide guitar first, anyway. KnotLenny has some good lessons, here, too. You'll be a guitar picker before you know it!
