Cigar Box Guitar Headquarters - CBG HQ

A video showing the results of some of my experiments in ebonizing different species of wood. The iron supplement I describe in the video is Ferrous Sulfate. The tablets I used were 65mg per tablet.

The tannin I used in the video is called Wine Tannin by the supplier. This particular brand of tannin is Hydrolyzed Gallotannin. It is available at wine making suppliers and home brew suppliers.

It actually sinks in pretty well. I sand the piece as if I were going to spray a final finish on it, then ebonize it. Yes, you'll have to sand again because it will raise the grain, but not a whole lot. You could sand through the ebonizing on corners or edges, but I've never had a problem with sanding through it on the flats of the wood. If you just take the normal precautions on corners or edges, you're all set.
